Oregon Scrap Metal Prices - USA

Selling Scrap in Oregon

The one thing that all decent scrappers will agree on, is how important it is to understand the laws and rules that govern the buying and selling of scrap metal in your region of operation. Newcomers to the industry often end up having payment issues or being surprised when asked for ID. Each state in the US has different laws for the trade of scrap metal and it can be difficult to figure out which laws apply to which state.

Oregon, the Beaver State, has it's own set of laws and you should know about them before you start to sell scrap metal. We have been through the legislation for scrap metal sales in Oregon. We have summarized everything that we think you really should know before you head off to the scrap yard.

First thing to remember when selling scrap anywhere in the US, not just Oregon, is ID. This is the bare minimum for scrap metal sales in the US. In Oregon the scrap yard is required to keep a record of your ID, along with photos of both the material and the seller at the time of the transaction. This will all be held in a transaction record for at least one year.

Oregon scrap yards are also required to videotape all purchases made with the scale reading in full view of the camera. These must be kept for a month. The final important thing is payment. This is something that surprises a lot of people. All payments must be made via check. The check will be sent out to address on your ID and will be sent out at least 3 days after the transaction.
